Training Requirements & Classes - Continuing Education
This section is for adult family homes, assisted living facilities, and community instructors (including home care agencies wanting to offer CE to their own staff) wanting to offer long term care worker continuing education (CE).
As of 7/1/2012, all long term care workers (LTC) must complete 12 hours of CE. DSHS must approve all CE curriculum (training materials) and CE instructors.
CE Requirements
What you need to know to:
- Submit materials YOU developed for approval
Policies impacting what you can submit as CE
- Use approved CEs developed by:
- DSHS
RFOC, specialty, or nurse delegation courses - Other businesses or training programs
- DSHS
- Apply CPR/First Aide training hours as CE
- Food Safety and Food Worker Care Renewal
- On-line CE Standards

Find Approved CE
- Businesses offering approved CE curriculum
Use CE materials already approved that you teach (classroom and online).
- DSHS developed curriculum approved for CE
Use DSHS developed curriculum for CE, including which courses and how to get it approved for your training program.
- Take CE courses from an approved Community Instructor
Send workers to an approved independent instructor offering CE
Apply to Offer CE
AFHs, ALFs or home care agencies must be an approved Training Program with at least one CE instructor and approved CE training materials to offer CE unless using CE community instructors to teach your staff.

Step 2: Apply to offer CE |
Fill out and submit a training program application or training program update form to list CE as a course you want to offer and list CE instructors. You must be a DSHS approved training program with at least one CE instructor to offer CE. |

Step 3: Get NEW CE curriculum approved |
Fill out and submit a CE Approval form to get new CE training materials approved. If you plan on using CE that is already approved, complete Steps 1 and 2 only. |
