SUBJECT: Forensic Wound Identification Training
This is to announce Forensic Wound Identification Training, presented by Dan Sheridan, PhD, RN, an abuse investigator with the Oregon Department of Human Resources Mental Health and DDD. Dr. Sheridan will share his expertise on:
§ types of wounds
§ distinguishing accidental from intentional injuries
§ documentation
§ photographing injuries
§ clinical case review
The event will be held at Holiday Inn Select, One South Grady Way, Renton,
425-226-7700. The hotel has an airport shuttle which can be accessed by a phone in the baggage claim area (there is a bank of phones for all local hotels).
Presentation Schedule
In order to give all staff that perform investigations an opportunity to attend this training, we are offering several sessions:
§ Eligible staff:
· 5 APS staff from each region (total 30)
· 30 RCS staff
May 2, 2001: One full-day presentation 8:30 – 4:30
§ More in depth discussion plus hands-on training of photographing injuries
§ Clinical case review
§ Eligible staff:
· HCS—one APS program manager and 3 APS staff per region (total 24 field staff)
· RCS—25 staff
§ Eligible staff:
· 5 APS staff from each region
· 30 RCS staff
Please email a participant list indicating the name, phone number, date and time of the intended session for each participant to Carol Sloan at sloancs@dshs.wa.gov, NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2001. Refer to the allotted number of slots, dates and times of sessions outlined above.
Participants can bring case examples and photographs (no faces) to discuss in the training session on May 2. Any documentation, photographs, or written materials are subject to review by your region’s public disclosure officer before the training session to insure confidentiality. You can also send the material to Carol Sloan at MS 45600 for review no later than March 30, 2001.
On May 1 and 10, participants may discuss case examples with the speaker at appropriate times during the training and at breaks. Please remember to preserve confidentiality and not disclose any identifying information. Again, any documentation or written materials are subject to review by your region’s public disclosure officer.
