The number of Core Training
units offered for the 2001-2002 year has been reduced from seven to six due to
budget constraints.
All HCS social workers,
community nurse consultants, AAA case managers, AAA nurses that case manage,
and the supervisors from both systems must complete the CORE Training series within
three years from the date of hire.
Veteran staff persons who wish to retake units and AAA case aides ARE
NOT eligible to attend.
All managers are encouraged
to inform their staff to request a waiver if the following conditions exist:
Staff who previously worked
for HCS or AAA, has taken CORE Training units, and is currently working for the
other agency should not repeat the training.
Please check whether staff
qualify for a waiver before submitting names for attendance.
UW staff are responsible for
all registration activity. Registration
will be on a unit-by-unit basis. Each
HCS region and AAA area is assigned a specific number of slots for each unit
based on the overall number of participants.
Five alternates are again requested this year. Report alternate substitutes or last minute attendance changes to
Carrie Leath (UW) at 206-685-1686 PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THAT UNIT. Staff who show up at a unit without
notifying Carrie Leath may be turned away.
Also, the HCS region or AAA may be charged for the costs of a ‘no show,’
as these costs are non-refundable. A
list of ‘no shows’ will be sent to each region or AAA as they occur.
Copies of the AAA staff
sign-in sheets and DSHS HRDS forms will be sent to respective agencies to track
staff attendance. The HCS regions and
AAAs are responsible for keeping accurate staff attendance records.
Certificates of completion
are given at the end of each CORE Training unit. Staff must attend all sessions of a unit to receive a
certificate.
The yearly request that CORE
Training be approved as a DSHS Diversity program by OOED is in process. We will notify HCS Regional Administrators
only if there is a change in approval status.
The contract with UW
provides for travel, per diem, and lodging for those participants whose
residence or regular workplace is 61 miles or more from the training site,
whichever is closer. Staff who wish to
reside at the training site but do not meet the travel requirement can seek
approval to make their own lodging arrangements from the HCS Regional
Administrator or AAA Director. The HCS
region or AAA will absorb this cost. Staff
in the mid-state area (Wenatchee/Yakima) can opt to attend training on the east
or west side of the mountains. UW
staff, based on which is more economical (airfare vs. car mileage), will
determine the reimbursement rate for the mode of travel. UW staff will arrange air travel for each
participant.
The UW staff contract will
not pay for overnight accommodations before the first day or the night of the
last day of each training unit. Such
costs are the responsibility of the HCS region or AAA.
A CORE Training Program
brochure will be distributed in the near future by UW staff.
A list of people who
completed CORE training in 2000-2001 and the Revised AASA/HCS CORE Training
Needs Update Form For 2001-2002 Year is attached. Please update your records and submit an updated training plan
that reflects which staff you would like to nominate for UNITS 1, 2, 3, &
4. This plan should include the name,
city of employment, job title and approximate date of hire of the nominated
staff. Training slots will be assigned
according to the information on these plans.
Fax the completed form to Barbara Hanneman, fax: 360-725-2646 no later than 4:00 p.m. on July
22, 2001.
