Family Caregiver Conference Project:  2002 

 

 

 


PROJECT GOALS

 

The goals of the Family Caregiver Conferences are to:

 

(1)               teach caregivers practical skills that can be used in daily caregivers responsibilities;

(2)               provide current information on supportive services and resources;

(3)               offer the opportunity for emotional support and recognition of family and unpaid caregivers; and,

(4)               raise community awareness of caregiving issues.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE

 

Family and unpaid caregivers caring for an adult or senior with chronic illness or disability.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

In order to clarify role and expectations regarding this collaborative effort, the following outline responsibilities for Aging and Disability Services Administration (AASA) and the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA).

 

AASA will:

 

1.                  Provide between $500-$1500 for project implementation.

2.                  Provide technical assistance and consultation in conference development and implementation to the AAA.

3.                  Assist in refining the caregiver conference curriculum, as needed.

4.                  Assist in the publicizing local conferences through our toll-free HelpLine, the AASA internet and other joint conference outreach efforts.

 

AAA will:

 

1.                  Develop a conference budget not exceeding $1500.  Note: If intending to provide this conference for a limited English speaking population, you may request the additional funds you believe will be required to effectively reach this group.

2.                  Assign a local conference advisory committee to work with the AAA coordinator in:  developing the caregiver conference curriculum; recommending speakers; coordinating local fundraising; implementing complementary resource exhibit; and, in developing and implementing plans for outreach with local target audience.

3.                  Arrange and pay for printing of conference brochure and program materials.

4.                  Develop individual workshop format/descriptions.  Make contacts and logistical arrangements with speakers.

5.                  Make logistical arrangements with conference facility.  The preferred facility would accommodate breakout rooms and the capacity to host a resource fair.

6.                  Act as a local conference coordinator and host for information and coordination purposes (i.e., use phone number on brochure, coordinate staff/volunteers during event, etc.).

7.                  Manage participant and resource exhibitor registrations and coordinate responses.

8.                  Perform Conference evaluation and report.
