AGING AND LONG-TERM SUPPORT ADMINISTRATION
Medicare/Medicaid Integration Project - Learn More
Approximately 135,000 Washington state citizens receive Medicare and Medicaid benefits annually. Medicare and Medicaid provide vital health care to people who have complex and often co-occurring needs that include chronic conditions, disabilities, mental illness and chemical dependence.
Washington State provides an array of Medicare and Medicaid services. However, services lack coordination and are fragmented across delivery systems. This is difficult for dual eligible beneficiaries because they are required to navigate through the two separate systems to obtain health care coverage. The two system tracks consist of:
- Medicare for coverage of basic acute health care services and medications; and
- Medicaid for coverage of long-term care, behavioral health and developmental disability supports and services, and help with Medicare premiums and co-pays.
