New Dementia Specialty Curriculum – Community Instructors
The new DSHS Dementia Specialty Basic Training curriculum includes six modules for caregivers and two for managers and is designed to be completed within 6 to 8 hours.
Highlights of the new multi-media curriculum include:
- DVD/video introduction with guided overview for each module.
- Student course workbook that includes the class content and resource materials.
- DVD/video demonstrations on dealing with challenging behavior and communicating effectively with people who have dementia.
- Integrated PowerPoint presentation with the DVD/video to use with students during the course and as additional resource materials.

Mandatory Instructor Training
Any instructor using the DSHS curriculum must attend a 3 hour mandatory training. Through instructor facilitation activities and role playing, participants receive instruction on how to effectively use the new multi-media curriculum materials.
You MUST attend a session to receive a copy of the CD/DVD and information on how to order student workbooks. Testing materials are sent to you following completion of the mandatory training.
