Changes to FIRST AID & CPR TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Dear Adult Family Home Provider:
As part of the process for revising and clarifying the first aid and CPR training requirements for adult family home staff, the Department met with providers and other interested parties. The purpose of this letter is to notify you about the resulting changes to WAC 388-112-0255 and 388-112-0260 and to inform you that effective January 15, 2006, adult family home providers must comply with the following requirements:
- First aid training for providers, resident managers, licensed nurses, and caregivers must satisfy federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
- Caregivers must maintain a valid CPR and first aid card or certificate.
- Licensed nurses working in your Adult Family Home must obtain a valid CPR card or certificate within 30 days of employment.
- Licensed nurses who are providers and/or resident managers in your adult family home must obtain a valid CPR card or certificate prior to caring for residents
No changes to the inspection process have been made.
We appreciate the participation of adult family home stakeholders in this process. The updated training requirements that reflect these changes are accessible online at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=388-112.
If you have any questions related to inspections, please contact your RCS Field Manager.
Sincerely,
Joyce Pashley Stockwell, Director
