July 9, 2001

AASA: AFH #2001-007
SUBJECT:? Distribution of Criminal Background Inquiry Results

Dear Adult Family Home Provider:

Effective July 22, 2001, new staff/employee adult family home criminal background inquiry results will be returned from the Background Check Central Unit directly to the employing adult family home provider.? If you fax the background application, results will be faxed back to you.? If you mail the background application, results will be mailed back to you.

Adult family home providers have the responsibility to comply with RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.842 upon receipt of a background inquiry result that shows a relevant criminal conviction history.? Adult family home providers are also expected to comply with all requirements regarding criminal history disclosure and background inquiries as spelled out in WAC 388-76-685.?? Remember, when you are making hiring decisions, criminal history background information is only one of the pieces of information you must consider.

Residential Care Services (RCS) staff will continue to review a sample of staff records when conducting re-inspections and complaint investigations to assure that providers are following these requirements.

If you have questions about the criminal background inquiry process for adult family home providers/staff, refer to your Criminal Conviction History booklet or contact the RCS Field Manager in your region.

Sincerely,

Patricia K. Lashway, Director
